Introduction

Academic advising is considered a fundamental and pivotal pillar of the educational process. It is one of the essential services that positively influence students’ academic and professional development. In this context, the role of the Academic Advising Unit emerges in activating the relationship between students and faculty members through a system that familiarizes students with the faculty, its bylaws, and its academic and student regulations. The unit is responsible for guiding and following up with students throughout their studies at the faculty and for helping them overcome difficulties, particularly in cases of academic underachievement.

To provide diverse, high-quality advising services to students in order to meet their academic needs and enhance their skills in dealing with various challenges during their period of study.

Objectives

  1. Raising students’ awareness of the credit hour system and academic levels.
  2. Guiding students in all academic, psychological, and educational aspects.
  3. Developing mechanisms to overcome students’ academic, psychological, and social problems.
  4. Evaluating student follow-up reports throughout their study.
  5. Establishing mechanisms for supporting outstanding and talented students.

Unit Responsibilities

  1. Preparing forms and templates related to academic advising.
  2. Providing administrative and organizational supervision over academic advising coordinators and academic advisors in each of the faculty’s programs.
  3. Following up on the implementation of academic advising and preparing the Student Guide for Academic Advising.
  4. Distributing faculty students among academic advisors and announcing the relevant lists.
  5. Participating in the preparation of study schedules and examination timetables in coordination with Student Affairs Department, under the supervision of the Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.
  6. Following up on academic advising coordinators and academic advisors and introducing them to students.
  7. Preparing reports listing students deprived of sitting for final examinations, as well as postponed and withdrawn students each semester, and submitting them to the Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.
  8. Monitoring students’ academic progress, following up on their performance, and preparing a file for each academically underachieving student or those expected to face academic difficulties, to facilitate effective follow-up of their cases.
